In 1857 verscheen de eerste uitgave van&#xA0;<em>Les Fleurs du mal<\/em>. Hij publiceerde onder verschillende pseudoniemen, waarvan Pascal Pia de bekendste was, maar hij zou ook Marcella La Plompe, Leger Alype of Pascal Rose kunnen zijn. Hij zou ook &#x2018;Guillaume Apollinaire&#x2019;, &#x2018;Arthur Rimbaud&#x2019; of &#x2013; zoals hier &#x2013; &#x2018;Charles Baudelaire&#x2019; kunnen zijn.
